Terrarium Care Guide

General Info

  • Terrariums are small gardens planted in glass containers.

  • Terrariums are generally low maintenance, and, once planted, require very little maintenance.

  • If a closed terrarium is getting too foggy, open up the top for a couple hours to let some of the moisture out.

Soil

  • Cater the soil towards the plants you are putting in your terrarium.

  • In an enclosed terrarium, you want your soil to have some drainage, but to be able to retain moisture.

  • Mix in horticultural charcoal to your terrarium soil to help prevent mold and rot.

Water

  • In an enclosed terrarium, you will rarely have to water! The terrarium creates its own ecosystem and cycles water through.

  • In an open terrarium, you’ll want to spray it with water once every few days as you see fit.

Light

  • Bright-indirect sunlight is best.

  • Right up against a North or East facing window, or a few feet back from a West or South facing window is best.
