Semi-Hydro Care Guide

General Info

  • Semi-hydro is when a planter has some form of reservoir of water, and a substrate to wick up the moisture when the plant needs it.

Soil

  • Frequently used substrates include LECA and pon, which are both porous substrates that water can pass through.

Water

  • Keeping a reservoir of 2-3 inches of water (adjusting for the size of the plant!)

  • The substrate will wick up water for the plant whenever it needs it!

Fertilizer

  • It is important to fertilize your plants in semi-hydro, because the substrate offers no nutrients. Any water-soluble fertilizer is good for semi-hydro.

  • We recommend diluting the fertilizer and mixing it in with the water in the reservoir.

Light

  • This is dependent on the plant that is in your semi-hydro planter! Check out our other care guides for specific advice about the light needs of your plant.
